About

Karakeep, previously called Hoarder, is a bookmark-everything app for data hoarders. You save links, notes, images and PDFs in one place, and it fetches titles, descriptions and images for links automatically.

It is built for people who find interesting things on their phone and want to read them later, and for homelab users who want that workflow on their own hardware. The difference is the AI layer, with automatic tagging and summarization using OpenAI or local models via ollama, plus full text and semantic search over everything you store.

Key features

  • Bookmark links, take notes and store images and PDFs.
  • Automatic fetching of link titles, descriptions and images.
  • Full text and semantic search across all stored content.
  • LLM-based automatic tagging and summarization, with local models via ollama.
  • Full page archival with monolith and video archiving with yt-dlp.
  • Chrome, Firefox and Safari extensions plus iOS and Android apps.
  • Auto hoarding from RSS feeds.
  • Importers for Chrome, Pocket, Linkwarden, Omnivore and Tab Session Manager.

Requirements

The stack uses Meilisearch for full content search and Puppeteer for crawling links. AI tagging and summarization work with OpenAI or with local models through ollama.

Ways to run it

  • Docker
